desert state
I am Egypt. Not the Egypt that you know today nor am I the great birthplace of civilization. All that has been erased by corrosion and I am a desert of sand and sky. Years ago my many temples and walls stood fast and called out to visitors and passers by. the grandeur of my architcture, the beauty of my art and the cunning of my construction made even the most weary of travellers stay. But they all took my heart; they all took the million dollar view and the firstclass service. the problem with hotels is that the guests don't clean up after themselves and the staff... well, there aren't any staff here. Not in my Egypt; not in me. Here things just corode as i fight to keep my walls afoot and my temples from collapsing. But wait, this is the future; a great desert is all that you see. the walls that I once fought for have all become sand and now I sit, I think I'm 14, and build castles in the sand. Have you ever tried making a sandcastle in the desert? It's impossible without the ocean; without water. You can pile bucket after bucket of sand one on top of the other and the result, after days of work, is a sand dune. A picturesque one if you are lucky, but still easily traversable. It provides no warmth, no shelter and no comfort at all. the only roof you'll get here is a blue sky and a bright starry night.
3 years ago I thought having walls was a bad thing. I thought boundaries were better left in bed and worst of all I thought to tread carefully was to barely tread at all. But walls are civilization and interaction. Walls are what people build to protect themselves and keep the elements out. In recoil i now realize... Walls are better than sand dunes.
